Inversion
Once the Direct Current reaches the normal AC grid it must be converted back to AC. This process is called Inversion.
Present systems rely on semiconductor devices called Thyristors - placed in series (because of the large voltages). These need to be turned on and off via low voltage currents which are often optically controlled.
Obviously the DC must then me made to match the AC on the grid that exists where it is delivered. It must also be delivered in a manner that avoids harmonics being generated.
