Nuclear Power - Compatibility
Nuclear power can really only justify its investment (on the major assumption that this is possible) if working at maximum design output. Thus it is unsuitable as infill for the times when renewables are not available.
This means that careful analysis of the renewables link up using HVDC is required.
The building of HVDC links will work to make renewables viable on grounds of consistency and massively reduce or indeed eliminate the need to use nuclear power. Some remarkable and detailed work has been done on this in the context of wind power by Dr Czisch of the University of Kassel.
Given the massive projected need for electricity in the future it may be we need all options however this issue does need urgent and careful thought.
