Why is there Opposition to an HVDC SuperGrid?
Opposition from National Goverments with access to cheaper sources (eg Hydro)
Problem:
Selling abroad will raise the local (very cheap) price of electricity and thereby create opposition from local users.
Answer
Selliing electricity at the best price will bring a greater return to the operator and if taxed the Government of the exporting country
Opposition from the Nuclear Industry -
Problem
Nuclear Investment is costly (horrendous when one includes decommissioning) and needs a market to be stable and expensive so that its electricity is viable over the investment period.
If cheaper electricity can be bought (e.g. when the sun shines in the Sahara or the wind blows in the North Sea) nuclear power may become obsolete and revealed as the white elephant it really is.
Solution
Challenge the Nuclear Industry and ask it to endorse the principle of cheap long distance electricity distribution.
If they are genuine then they should be pleased nuclear power can be sold further afield .... but they wont be!
